Increasing number of murders

Fear and anxiety in the minds of the people of Candolim, due to the increasing number of murders taking place in the late nights and wee hours of mornings. Shri Arnold Soares, who was an Overseas Citizen of India, who was residing at Orda, Candolim, for the last 10 years, was brutally murdered in his own ancestral house by an unknown person and after that the accused drove the victim’s car and abandoned it at the hills of Sinquerim, Helipad. The steps the Government has taken in the matter.”

“Fear and anxiety in the minds of the Traditional Dwellers/Fishermen /local inhabitants of the coastal belt of Goa. Since they have received various Inspection Notices/Show Cause Notices/Demolition Orders from Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority for their Residential Houses/Restaurants/Guest Houses/Shops, etc. The livelihood of the Traditional Dwellers/Fishermen/Local inhabitants are at stake. The Steps Government intends to take to help the local people staying within 500 meters of the High Tide Line, within the State of Goa.”

Berger- Becker Paint factory

“fear and anxiety in the minds of the people of Calangute, Pilerne, Saligao and Porvorim that due to the sudden outbreak of massive fire at the Berger- Becker Paint factory at Pilerne Industrial Estate at Saligao, the sudden pollution created in the form of carbon monoxide and various other harmful gases in the environment could create health issues especially to high risk people with asthma or chronic respiratory illnesses and infants. The water of the wells in the said areas has also been contaminated and not safe for drinking purposes, especially in saipem vaddo of Candolim villages. The steps the Government intends to undertake in the matter”.

Illegal homestays in buildings and unregistered homes and estates

The growing concern among Goans regarding the illegal homestays in buildings and unregistered homes and estates. This unregulated activity is causing anxiety among residents, raising concerns about safety, security, and infrastructure strain.

I urge the Government to take decisive action to crack down on unauthorized homestays, ensure strict enforcement of registration norms, and protect the interests of residents.

Department of Tourism

Tree falls in the State have increased and has further escalated the worries and fear among the commuters.

Fear and apprehension in the minds of the people to leave their houses and travel on the roads, following the incident wherein a 19-year-old girl Ms. Arti Gond was killed, as a tree fell on her near the Municipal Garden in the city of Panaji. Due to extreme rain showers, the rise in tree falls in the State have increased and has further escalated the worries and fear among the commuters. The steps Government intends to take, to assure the safety of the people of Goa.

014A - IIT IN GOA

*WILL the Minister for Education be pleased to state:

  1. whether the Government has finalized a location for the proposed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Goa; if so, what is the exact site (village, taluka, district) selected and the total land area designated for the institute;
  2. what stage of land acquisition process has been completed—survey, acquisition orders, revenue records update; whether the site has been officially handed over to the Ministry of Education/IIT Council; if so, furnish the date of handover and details of the land parcel;
  3. the current steps remaining before construction can commence—such as DPR approval, Central funding release, or environmental clearances; provide expected timelines for each remaining milestone, including foundation stone laying and first semester admissions;
  4. whether the selected land is free from legal disputes, encroachments, or environmental constraints (e.g., CRZ, forests); if any such issues exist, outline the actions taken to resolve them and provide current status; and
  5. whether the Government has signed any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Government or any educational trust for establishment of IIT Goa; if so, furnish a copy of the MoU; if not, indicate the expected timeline for entering into such an Agreement?
